Introduction

We were asked by our client, a pump service company, to provide day-and-night tanker support for 5 consecutive days to Thames Water while emergency repairs were made to a public foul sewer.

One of our 3000-gallon tankers attended a five-block residential development in Walthamstow where a large foul pumping station received waste from three of the blocks.

Method

Due to its urgency the work was scheduled at short notice. Thanks to our strength in depth, we were able to do so without compromising existing commitments.

Arriving on a Monday and working day-and-night for 5 days, our drainage engineers bypassed the main sewer while a civil engineering contractor completed the repairs.

Disposal was at the nearby Deephams Sewage Treatment Plant which minimised the time spent in transit.

The 8m deep pumping station overflows into two large storage tanks all situated in the development’s garden area.

The powerful 3000-ga tanker was able to empty the chambers despite its depth, a 20 m horizontal hose run and the heavily ragged waste.

Resolution

All the foul waste from the three residential blocks was tankered, bypassing the public sewer and allowing the civil engineering contractors to safely complete the repairs.

Our drainage engineers worked in shifts to ensure we could provide the necessary 24-hour coverage.
